Industry Partnership

Since its establishment in 2007, KOMtech has been actively engaging and collaborating with many industry partners and academic institutes such as Nanyang Technology University, National University of Singapore, Det Norske Veritas and University of Western Australia to enhance Keppel Offshore & Marine's technologies.

It has multiple Joint Industry Projects and collaborations with leading industry players where they drive innovation and advance technology that may be translated to products and services to yield economic benefit. Research collaborations also allow the pooling of resources and serves as a learning platform for the industry.

In addition, KOMtech also participated in forums, conferences and exhibitions to share and showcase its research and development of new solutions.

Keppel-NUS Corporate Laboratory

Keppel Corporation (Keppel) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) have set up the Keppel-NUS Corporate Laboratory, in collaboration with the National Research Foundation (NRF), Prime Minister's Office, Singapore.

The laboratory, which will be based at the NUS Faculty of Engineering, will create a synergistic industry-university partnership to pursue three main research thrusts which are centred on Future Systems, Future Yards and Future Resources to meet the future challenges of the offshore industry.

Leveraging on the expertise of NUS research centres such as the NUS Centre for Offshore Research & Engineering (CORE) and NUS Tropical Marine Science Institute (TMSI), as well as Keppel's research unit Keppel Offshore & Marine Technology Centre, the Corporate Laboratory will develop capabilities and technologies to maintain Singapore's position as a global leader in the offshore and marine industry.

Vision: To be a global technology centre of excellence in the pursuit of resources in a safe and responsible manner from harsh environments and ocean beds, preserving and sustaining our environment.

Mission: To undertake R&D through Keppel's core competencies and NUS' research expertise for solutions to Deepwater, Arctic and other fields.

Engagements for Brazil

Industry Partnership2 Keppel Offshore & Marine, KOMtech, National University of Singapore and FloaTEC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to form a consortium namedƒ(K)N, or fKN. This consortium is committed to meet the challenges of deepwater developments in Brazil.

They will explore collaborations with Brazilian universities, research institutions as well as offshore and marine industry partners to develop technologies and training opportunities.

Keppel Chair Professorship

The Keppel Chair Professorship (KCP) Programme was introduced in 2002 to enhance Singapore's competitiveness in the Ocean, Marine and Offshore industry by facilitating the transfer of technology and promoting the creation of new knowledge and processes.

The programme aims to attract world-class researchers and practitioners to Singapore, and has the following objectives:

To set up an infrastructure to promote interest in Ocean, Marine and Offshore Technology
To map out the technology roadmap for the Ocean, Marine and Offshore industry
To set up networks to facilitate exchange of knowledge between local and foreign offshore and marine industries
To identify strategic research projects and collaborators
To conduct courses and tailor advanced courses in offshore and marine technology for students and those in the industry
To facilitate the transfer of technology and know-how to enhance the capabilities of the industry's workforce

Professor Chan Eng Soon, Dean of Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS), was appointed Keppel Chair Professor in November 2012. Professor Chan takes over from Professor Andrew Palmer, who served as the second Keppel Chair Professor from 2006 to 2012. Professor Palmer was appointed visiting professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the NUS since 2006, and subsequently a full time professor in 2009.

The inaugural Keppel Chair Professor was Professor Torgeir Moan, an eminent Norwegian marine structures expert, who held this appointment from 2002 to 2006. Professor Moan taught in the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, and is renowned for his contributions to structural analysis and risk/safety assessment relating to marine and offshore structures.
